Android on the Nokia N810!
File this under experimental but very cool … There’s a great thread on ITT which describes how to install Android on your tablet. So far it’s pretty simple and straight forward. I had to reboot to get Android to actually launch, but otherwise it’s all there … at least what’s available. Much more to try and will see about installing some apps soon as well.

You tried to use multitouch?! The Nokia hardware does not support this.

I’ve also installed it but there are still some rough edges. For example the speed is not that great. That’s because Maemo runs in parallel with Android at the moment (I wonder if it would be possible in the future to dual boot or even to replace Maemo with Android).
Also the Fn key doesn’t work so it’s impossible to enter numbers.
And finally, the Android SDK used is quite old (m3 compared to the current m5). But overall I would say it is a great achievement and I can hardly wait until Android will be open sourced.

I have such little experience with Android I would not have known, but I shared this with a co-worked today and he noticed right away that it was an older version … Hopefully the team will be able to keep us current!

I flashed my N810 to Diablo to make a clean start.
Then I downloaded “android.img.bz2″ and “android-installer.deb” to my clean device. When I try to install “android-installer.deb” it just says “Unable to install android-installer”.
What am I doing wrong?

@markus I wish I knew … It just worked for me, though it took a reboot. Are you sure you have enough space on your memory card?
