Need a newer version of Flash but no way to update!

Posted in Applications, Internet, Software Updates at 6:10 pm by Jonathan Greene

I was just browsing Facebook and ran across this little issue … There is no way to install Flash directly on a mobile device as a browser plugin! Looks like I will have to wait it out for an update to the OS, but since we just got one this week, it may be a while …

links from Technoratiплеера отдельно – невозможна. Необходимо будет ждать обновления операционной системы циликом, вместе с новой версии Flash плеера. Источник:http://www.maemoapps.com/

I’m sorry for the guys who replied _en masse_ – some of them deserve rude reply, and one of them for sure needs some mental spanking. Thanks for filing, it DOES matter!

No worries … I need to actually reply to that thread. I don’t agree … ;)

This shows the advantage of raising good, specific bugs.

The problem isn’t the version of Flash on the tablet. The problem isn’t that you can’t upgrade it by going to adobe.com (they don’t provide a Linux/ARM download). The problem is that the Flash plugin misreports its version when queried by a web page, but is actually a later version.

Your original bug said “Need to upgrade Flash plugin after OS upgrade” – that’s just plain wrong, there’s no causal relationship betwen the error you got and the OS upgrade.

There’re a lot of people trying to make sure Nokia use the external Bugzilla a lot more than their internal bug tracker: but to do that *we*, as a community, need to raise good, specific bugs which can be easily reproduced and tracked down as much as is humanly possible.

Slapping in a bug saying “it doesn’t work” (which is not quite what you did) just gives Nokia developers an excuse to not touch the external Bugzilla: their managers aren’t going to support working in the open if the amount of effort they spend dealing with bugs doubles for no noticeable improvement in quality.

Hope that helps explain some of the replies to the bug.

I disagree actually … It is a “bug” that needs attention as there is no way for me to do anything without direct intervention from Nokia / Maemo. There is no user option, period.

I just added more description to the issue and see that it has been fixed internally – as in this case that’s the only place it can be remedied.

I’m not sure which bit of my comment (if it is my comment you disagree with) you’re disagreeing with.

Hey, look at that, there _is_ a fix (it’s provided in the bug, too, which you should have noticed) and it’s something users are more than capable of fixing without Nokia intervention (just replaces a couple of strings)!
